White has seven Game Changers, the second-smallest group on the 53-card list. The shape of that group tells you something about how Wizards reads the colour: five of the seven are permanents that sit on the board and change what everyone else is allowed to do, and only one of them draws cards. White's problem in Commander has always been card advantage, and white's single best answer to that problem — Smothering Tithe — is on this list.

What each one actually does

  • Drannith Magistrate — Locks every opponent out of casting their commander, casting from the graveyard, and casting exiled cards. Two mana that disables a large fraction of any commander deck's plan.
  • Enlightened Tutor — One mana to find any artifact or enchantment in the deck — fetches Rhystic Study, a stax piece, or a wincon-engine on turn 1.
  • Farewell — Exiles every artifact, creature, enchantment, and graveyard at once with no regeneration. The exile clause makes it punishing for graveyard and recursion strategies that normally rebuild from a wipe.
  • Humility — Strips abilities from every creature including commanders, neutralizing entire decks built around a commander's ability.
  • Serra's Sanctum — Generates one white mana per enchantment in an enchantment-heavy deck, scaling to 5+ mana off a single land in dedicated builds.
  • Smothering Tithe — Generates a Treasure for every uncontested opponent draw — typically yields 6+ extra mana per turn cycle in a four-player game.
  • Teferi's Protection — Phases out every permanent and locks the life total for a turn, sidestepping board wipes, lethal damage, and combo finishers in a single instant.

Which white Game Changers to keep at Bracket 3

Bracket 3 allows three Game Changers. In a mono-white or white-heavy deck the three worth keeping are the ones that do something every turn rather than once.

  • Smothering Tithe. White's only card-advantage engine on the list, and the reason white decks can compete on resources at all. Across a four-player table it converts every uncontested opponent draw into a Treasure, which is both mana and a rate no other white card matches.
  • Teferi's Protection. White's most flexible answer. Three mana at instant speed sidesteps a board wipe, a lethal swing, and most combo finishes. In a deck that commits permanents to the board — which is nearly every white deck — it protects a whole turn of investment.
  • Farewell. Added in the February 9, 2026 update. It is a reset that beats the recursion decks a wipe normally rebuilds into, because it exiles rather than destroys and it hits graveyards as a mode.

The other four are worth understanding as passes, not as bad cards.

  • Enlightened Tutor. A tutor finds one card; an engine draws many. Enlightened Tutor's best targets in a white deck are Smothering Tithe and Humility — cards you are already spending Game Changer slots on. Spending a third slot to find the first two is the least efficient way to use the cap.
  • Humility. It strips abilities from your own commander too. Four mana for a symmetrical effect that turns off the card in your command zone is a build-around, not a Bracket 3 include.
  • Drannith Magistrate. It is a hoser aimed at the command zone, which is the part of Commander everyone at the table came to play. The bracket cost is one slot; the social cost at a Bracket 3 pod is usually higher.
  • Serra's Sanctum. Only produces mana in a dedicated enchantress build, and at its current price it signals a deck built to a Bracket 4 budget before you have counted a single Game Changer.
The cap is per deck, not per colour. Three Game Changers is the whole allowance for a Bracket 3 list. In a two-colour or three-colour deck, the white picks above are competing with every other colour's for the same three slots.

What white lost — and it was not October 2025

White lost nothing in the October 21, 2025 update. That update removed ten cards, and every one of them was blue, green, red, or multicoloured — four blue, three multicoloured, two green, one red. We checked the colour identity of all ten in Scryfall's bulk oracle data; none of them is white.

White's only removal in the list's history came earlier. The April 22, 2025 update removed Trouble in Pairs (2WW) alongside Trinisphere. Trouble in Pairs punishes a table for taking extra turns, drawing extra cards, or making extra attacks — a tax on the exact behaviour Bracket 4 decks lean on, and Wizards judged it was not warping the games the bracket system was built to sort.

Going the other way, white is one of only two colours to have gained a card since April 2025: Farewell joined the list on February 9, 2026, and green's Biorhythm was unbanned and added the same day. Across the last two updates white is net +1, while blue is down four.

Budget alternatives in white

If you want the effect without the bracket slot, these are the closest white cards that are not on the list. None of them is as good, which is exactly why none of them is on it.

Game ChangerBudget substituteWhat you give up
Smothering TitheMonologue TaxTreasures off each opponent's second spell each turn instead of every draw. Fewer triggers, same shape, and it is not on the list.
Smothering TitheLand TaxA different answer to the same problem when you are behind on lands rather than on cards.
Enlightened TutorIdyllic TutorEnchantments only, three mana instead of one, and it puts the card in hand rather than on top.
FarewellAustere CommandA modal wipe that lets you keep your own half of the board. Destroys rather than exiles, so recursion decks rebuild.
FarewellVanquish the HordeCosts less the wider the board gets. A one-mode wipe, but usually a cheap one.
Teferi's ProtectionUnbreakable FormationProtects the creatures only, and does nothing about a lethal swing or your life total.
Drannith MagistrateAven MindcensorTaxes tutors and fetches instead of the command zone, which is a much less confrontational hoser.
HumilityGhostly PrisonA tax that slows the table down without turning off your own commander.

There is no budget substitute for Serra's Sanctum. A land that taps for one white mana per enchantment has never been reprinted into a cheaper shell, and the enchantress decks that want it are the only decks that can use it.

Every card in the middle column was checked against Scryfall's bulk oracle data and none of them carries the Game Changer flag, so all of them are legal in Bracket 2.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many white Game Changers are there?

Seven, as of the February 9, 2026 update: Drannith Magistrate, Enlightened Tutor, Farewell, Humility, Serra's Sanctum, Smothering Tithe, and Teferi's Protection. That is 7 of the 53 cards on the list.

Did white lose any Game Changers in October 2025?

No. All ten cards removed on October 21, 2025 were blue, green, red, or multicoloured. White's only removal was Trouble in Pairs, on April 22, 2025.

Is Smothering Tithe a Game Changer?

Yes. It is on the official list, so a deck running it is Bracket 3 at minimum and cannot be Bracket 1 or 2.

Is Land Tax a Game Changer?

No. Land Tax is not on the list and is legal in every bracket, which makes it a reasonable substitute if you are trying to stay under the Bracket 3 cap.
