Bracket Calculator Changelog

Every release of the engine behind the Commander Bracket Calculator, newest first. The version number is shown in the calculator's header, so you can tell which rules produced the result you are looking at.

Current version: v386 · Rules current as of the February 9, 2026 Wizards update (53 Game Changers) · Next Banned & Restricted announcement: October 12, 2026

v386 — October 1, 2026

The largest change since the engine went under version control, built from a review of 49 player disputes.

  • Combos are graded by whether they win. A two-card infinite combo that does not win the game on its own now sets a Bracket 3 floor instead of Bracket 4. Combos that win still count in full.
  • Looped extra turns (extra-turn effects that can repeat) now place a deck in Bracket 4.
  • The kill clock counts only winning combos, so a non-winning loop no longer makes a deck look faster than it is.
  • Detection fixes from the dispute review: card-name matching, tutors, removal, fog and lock pieces, Winter Moon, token and enter-the-battlefield drain effects.
  • Goldfish simulation fixes: cast triggers, X spells, voltron damage and artifact pings.
  • Card-function tags updated to version 14. Display fixes, and each dispute now records which engine version it was filed against.

v385 — September 26, 2026

  • Commanders whose names contain “ & ” are read as one card rather than as two partner commanders.

v384 — September 25, 2026

  • Combo lookups are retried. If the combo database did not answer, a deck could be scored as if it had no combos. The engine now retries the lookup before scoring.

v378–v383 — September 2026

Incremental detection fixes. They were shipped and are included in v385 and later, but they were not recorded as separate entries.

v377 — September 6, 2026

  • Lands that draw cards count as card advantage. Cycling lands are excluded.

v376 — September 6, 2026

  • Tutors that find utility lands are recognized, lands that provide interaction are counted as interaction, and extra-turn detection accounts for cards that give the extra turn to an opponent.

v374 — September 6, 2026

  • The combo summary names up to three of the additional combos it found, instead of only a count.
  • You can now report a detection problem (a card the engine misread) even when you agree with the bracket.

v373 — August 19, 2026

The baseline: the version in production when the engine was put under version control. Earlier releases are not itemized here.

How a release is checked

Before a version ships, it is checked against every player dispute where we granted a change, so a release cannot quietly undo a correction we already made. How the engine performs on decks labeled by tournament organizers is in the Bracket Validation Report. The calculator is re-checked the day Wizards publishes a bracket or Game Changers update, and any resulting release is listed here.
